First manufactory
Glashutte Original history dates back to 1845 when Ferdinand Adolph Lange opened the first watch manufactory. He managed to unite several renowned watch masters of that time under the shelter of Glashutte Company. These masters together with Lange are considered to be the beginners of Glashutte's history. In 1875 production of traditional yet innovative mechanical watches brought fame to Glashutte Company.
It is due to Ferdinand Lange that Glashutte managed to come over the economical crisis and get reoriented to watch production. The Glashutte's municipal coat of arms displays the whole history of the place starting from four hundred years of silver mining up to the time of watchmaking.
